Welcome to Bike Gaza.

This is a project for the 2009 Hillel at UCLA Student Fine Art Show (www.springdortort.blogspot.com). The curators and I are hosting an eighty mile bike ride. The route follows the perimeter of the Gaza Strip (as mapped onto Southern California) in the hopes of providing a greater context and scale for an otherwise abstract and distant situation. Our ride will start in Westwood and follow the perimeter down to Long Beach and back. Here is the tentative route.

We will be meeting for our ride at 9:00 AM on May 23, take as long as we take, and end with a large dinner at the curator's house back in Westwood around 8:00 PM. Both the dinner and ride are open to anyone, although we would appreciate an RSVP letting us know if you plan on attending one or the other or both so that we can prepare accordingly. Aside from the free food and some pretty legit bragging rights, all participants will also receive a hand-painted "Bike Gaza" t-shirt and a high-quality map of the route that changed their life. As this piece is for a painting show, a large canvas flier will be on display at Hillel starting Wednesday, May 13 (opening 6-8) if anyone is interested in checking it out.

The official maps and directions will be passed out the morning of May 23. We will be meeting at the corner of Kelton Ave. and Ophir Dr. and setting out as a group at roughly 9:20 AM. Dinner will be held nearby.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,

Elliott Kaplan -- bikegaza@elliottkaplan.com
